Floor Plan process

In the first floor I have 2 separate building. The river/Brooklyn bride is at the right side.

Loby is the first thing I see when I come to the left building. I will see the security desk and mail room. The left side is lounge for people to hang around, or the parents who come to visit their kids. I put 2 ADA bathroom right next to the lounge for public use. The right side is the theater (double height). Behind the security desk I will get to the office. And the core (stair(i use circuit stair/ elevator) locate at the end for the private use check by the security desk outside (student/staff only).
Notes: I will let the open space go straight up on the lobby/lounge on the first floor. So people can have the nice view from top and get some indirect light down to the lobby. The left side will be negative and the right side will be positive.
The right building is more like public purpose. I put the dinning hall/ kitchen/cafe(double height) at the right side so they can use the view of the park/ river. The kitchen also can service for outside door, so they can make money for the dormitory. The bookstore(double height) is at the left connect to the dinning hall so people can come in to buy books/ items if they want to. And the core is at the corner on the bottom right. Only student with special ID can get into it.
In the 2nd floor. I have pretty much the same with the first floor. I still have the double height theater, lobby/ lounge, book store, dinning hall. I have the small office on the right building look down to the lobby/lounge. On the right building, the only different is where I cover the kitchen below and I use that place for eating area so people can hang around on that place and have a nice view down to the bookstore/dinning hall below and outside door.
Third floor is where my 2 buildings begin to connect. I have dormitory room on 3,4,7,8 floors. I have some rooms around the building. Every 2 rooms share 1 bath room with 2 sinks, 1 bath,1 toilet (my Prof.Lia wants 2 sinks because she think it is nicer for them to have separate sink from each room. And they could both use their sink on the morning if they re in rush for class like brushing teeth. I have the big toilet/shower place in middle of the place so more people can use at the same time. I also have a lounge with small kitchen in case students hungry at the night and they want to cook. People also can hang around the open space since it look straight to the bottom floor on the left side. On the right side I also have the share shower/toilet and lounge just as like as the left side, they just dont have the open. I put the small library in the middle where people can find book/study. It also have computer. I put the RA in the right side of the library for 2 people so they can take care of the whole floor. When the students have the problems, they come to the AR to get help.
I have the big lounge on 5,6 floors ( the left building) where all the boy can come from 3,4 to 5 and girl from 7,8 down to 6 to hang around with their friends or meet new friends. The middle building is storage for the lounge/office/ and the library down stair. The right building is the small office/ security, camera rooms where people take care of the camera in case of crime/problems happen.

Those are my process so far.

  1. I want to see how it works with the neighborhood. And I would love to see some sections

  2. I would like to see the floor plans in context and where the window are in plan relative to the site. Like Lia asked I agree with seeing sections. Floor plans are open and flexible enough, but vertical circulation, via sections, are much more permanent.
